1 Million Flight Hours

Austro Engine, a company of the Diamond Aircraft Group, is celebrating 1 million flight hours of the AE300 jet-fuel aviation engine. Since the start of serial production in 2008, more than 1,500 engines have been delivered into operation.

With the 170 hp AE300, Austro Engine has launched the leading Jet A1 piston engine in General Aviation. The power plant stands out in reliability, endurance, the highest performance and efficiency compared to other products in this field. At equal power the engine has a 45 % lower fuel burn than conventional piston aircraft engines running on Avgas. It produces significantly less exhaust emissions and is exceptionally silent. Especially flight schools, whose aircraft are operated on an above average level and are often located near resident areas, benefit from these qualities.

Very popular with pilots is the easy engine management by an electronic controlled system (ECU) with integrated single power lever design, as this allows them to focus on the actual flying. Given that the AE300 is multi-fuel certified, easy worldwide operability is not a problem unlike Avgas engines, because in certain regions of the world Avgas is hard to get and often at multiple the price of jet fuel.

Austro Engine and Liqui Moly teamed up for the future

Austro Engine and Liqui Moli jointly developed a special engine oil, which meets, and fulfills the high requirements of the Austro Engine  AE300 and AE330 jet fuel engine series.

In future Austro Engine will use the LIQUI MOLY AUSTRO ENGINE AERO 5-W40 oil for the initial filling of all new and overhauled engines of the AE300 and AE330 series. Diamond Aircraft’s DA40 NG, DA42-VI and the new DA62 are powered by these powerplants.

In aviation too, every combustion engine is subject to abrasion. Both companies have been focusing on minimizing this abrasion to increase the safety and lifetime. The AERO product line of LIQUI MOLY is specifically developed for General Aviation. Attention to minimum abrasion and friction, optimized lubrication and higher engine cleanliness were the highest priorities for the development of the high performance oil.

The new AUSTRO ENGINE AERO Oil will be distributed worldwide by Austro Engine and MM aeronautical & automotive affairs GmbH/Austria.

Eight Diamond Aircraft planes for Australian International Aviation College

Australian International Aviation College (AIAC) has introduced eight new additions to their existing Diamond Aircraft fleet of DA20 C1 and DA40 CS aircraft. With the introduction of two twin engine DA42-VI and six single engine DA40 NG, both Austro Engine jet-fuel piston engine-powered, AIAC is now utilizing Diamond Aircraft exclusively in their training fleet.

After careful consideration in renewing their training fleet, looking at aircraft produced by numerous other manufacturers, AIAC considered Diamond Aircraft to be the best choice for their operation. The planes comply with all requirements of the flight school: current technology design and manufacturing materials, a maintenance system developed for commercial operations and high utilization, an aircraft family that offers the possibility of integrated training from ab-initio through to commercial pilot and advanced multi-engine as well as instrument rating, durability for intensive flight training operations, current technology cockpit systems, a fuel-saving power plant, ergonomics, and safety.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Selects Diamond Aircraft DA42 Fleet

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has selected the Austro Engine jet-fuel piston engine-powered Diamond Aircraft DA42-VI to provide multiengine training at its Daytona Beach, Fla. campus.

Delivery of the fleet of 10 aircraft will start April 2016 with all aircraft scheduled to be in place prior to the start of the fall 2016 semester. Compared to conventional powered twins, the fleet of 10 aircraft is expected to generate more than $3 million in fuel savings alone, over the next eight years.

The DA42-VI is the newest version of Diamond’s technology leading light piston twin, the first certified general aviation piston aircraft to combine modern technology airframe, avionics and powerplants.  Nearly 1,000 DA42’s have been delivered since its introduction 10 years ago, outselling all other certified piston
twins combined. 

The all-carbon composite DA42’s are equipped with efficient, clean and reliable turbo-diesel Austro engines, Garmin G1000 with 3-axis Automatic Flight Control System and optional electrically driven air conditioning.
“We are proud of our long standing relationship with Embry-Riddle and commend them on their vision regarding new technologies,” said Peter Maurer, President and CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. Embry-Riddle has the largest suite of DA-42 of any flight-training institute of higher education in the United States and Canada. The University’s Daytona Beach Campus had the benefit of being able to scrutinize the operational experience of the fleet of DA42’s operating at its other residential campus that offers flight training in Prescott, Arizona, where the average fuel burn of only 10.4 gph of jet fuel and superior high density altitude performance have made them the favorite. The Prescott Campus continues utilizing its existing four DA42’s as part of its training fleet.

AE440 taking off

AUSTRO ENGINE is proud to announce the maiden flight of the HIPE AE 440 High compression engine (HCE) successfully performed by Airbus Helicopters on November 6th 2015 in Marignane. The AE440 has evolved from a joint development endeavor as part of the European Union’s Clean Sky Program in the category Green Rotor Craft led by AIRBUS Helicopters and its partners TEOS Powertrain Engineering and AUSTRO ENGINE.

Austro Engine receives EASA certificate for 1,800 hour TBO

After having produced the 1,000th AE300 engine in December 2014, Austro Engine is now proud to announce that the AE300’s TBO (Time between Overhaul) has been increased to 1,800 hours.
